How to harmonize my decor and my flooring?

Are trends and inspirational images in magazines making you want to renew your interior decoration and harmonize it with your flooring? When it comes to matching decorative elements with each other to create a harmonious ensemble, it’s not always simple. To properly decorate your interior and create a truly sought-after ambiance, let’s see how to associate decor and flooring.

A wooden floor is an element of your home that is natural, warm, healthy, noble, and decorative. It indeed has all the required characteristics to brilliantly cover your floor while bringing style to your interior decoration.

Scandinavian decoration and its soft floor color

Always very trendy among decorative styles, Scandinavian and design decoration is a very good decor idea to combine with light-colored parquet. If you have a light-colored floor, even white, or if you wish to stain your floor white soon, you can harmonize your decor using clean lines and neutral colors for walls, objects, and furniture. You can choose pure white, but don’t hesitate to play with its warmer tones by opting for off-whites, creams, but also darker colors such as gray or taupe. The important thing is always to stay on the same range of shades and bet on a monochrome to keep a beautiful harmony.

Pastel colors and a light-colored floor

Since the arrival of the Scandinavian style in our homes, a more recent trend has emerged. The “hygge”, which is based on Nordic design, consists of adding pastel tones to decorative elements. If you have or are considering a light-colored floor, you can then opt for this decorative trend that is even less common than the Scandinavian style. For this, plan a white base for your walls and choose pastel shades of pink, blue, or yellow to cover certain wall sections. As for furniture and objects, vary them in the same way in pastel shades but also in different tones of white, depending on the amount of color you want in your interior. To keep a beautiful harmony, remember to keep no more than three different colors in a room.

Dark floors, from classic decorative style to cocoon decoration

A dark parquet brings an atmosphere that is found between tradition and modernity. Totally black, dark, or in shades of red, a dark floor will be a key element of a zen, Japanese-inspired, or even Art Deco decoration. Elegant and refined, a dark parquet can indeed give a very intimate side to a room if it is combined with decorative elements with warm materials and colors. If you’re looking for a more classic, warm, and cottage atmosphere, opt instead for a dark brown shade for your floor. A teak or oak floor notably establishes a friendly and warm atmosphere when complemented by wooden decorative elements, rustic in caramel, honey, and golden tones.

As you can understand, depending on its shade, the flooring can bring several atmospheres to different rooms of your home. Don’t hesitate to also play with contrasts between your flooring and your decorative elements, be creative and create an overall harmony that resembles you. A wooden floor is an element of a house that we keep for a very long time and can therefore experience different periods with very different decorative styles.
