A good quality classic or CLIC engineered wood floor is always made up of several layers stacked in a cross structure. It is this structure that gives engineered wood parquet its strength and durability. The top layer of the board is commonly known as the “wear layer” and is generally made of 100% high quality real wood. By choosing a cheaper range, you are more likely to come across an engineered wood flooring with a thinner slice of real wood and a lower quality structure.
On the other hand, if you are looking for a high quality traditional board, we suggest you choose a wear layer with a single strip made up of a section of wood. By comparing the boards, you will see that the thickness of the wear layer differs from one product to another. And it should be remembered that the thicker this top layer, the more the floor can be sanded several times in the coming years and the longer the life of your flooring.


Very often, the best manufacturers offer a variety of wear layer thicknesses to meet all needs and adapt to all budgets. Thinner boards generally have a wear layer of 1 to 3 mm and the thicker ones can have a wear layer depth of 4 to 6 mm.
