Commercial floating floor: 6 elements to consider

You want to install a laminate flooring in your business? Several criteria should be taken into consideration to make an informed choice when purchasing a commercial floating floor.

The thickness of the floor

The thickness generally does not determine the quality of a commercial floating floor. However, if your subfloor is even and uniform, opt for thinner planks.

Conversely, if your subfloor has irregularities, it is advisable to choose thicker planks for a better effect.

Wear resistance

AC1 to AC5 ratings are used to determine the resistance and durability of floating floors. It is established through various tests on wear, stains, effects of minimal burns, and different types of impacts. The higher the number, the more resistant the floor.

For a commercial floating floor, it is preferable to choose a floor with an AC4 rating or higher. Floors with an AC3 rating are better suited for residential contexts.

Formaldehyde content

A commercial floating floor may contain formaldehyde, a highly volatile and carcinogenic compound. The E1 standard guarantees a formaldehyde content below 8 mg per 100 g. There are also laminate floors with an E0 standard that are formaldehyde-free.

The density of the final product

MDF materials are well-known and widespread. However, HDF (High Density Fiberboard) materials offer a higher density of the final product. The fibers are more compressed. The product is therefore more solid and more resistant to variations in pressure and humidity levels. It also offers greater stability.

Types of clicks

There are several types of clicks. ‘Drop-clicks’ are more interesting because they are more forgiving compared to clicks where you have to lower the row along its entire length.

The warranty

The warranty indicates that the floor will not delaminate or discolor. For commercial flooring, the highest warranty on the market is 10 years. For residential floors, the maximum warranty is 35 years.
