3 rules for color arrangement of a floor during installation

Because floor installation often goes hand in hand with changing the interior decoration of one or more rooms in a house, certain rules apply regarding the color arrangement of your floor to harmonize everything for a beautiful final result. Here are 3 rules to follow:

Harmonize wood colors

When buying a new floor, in preparation for its installation in your home, it’s important to choose a wood variety that matches the wall and door moldings, as well as your furniture. If you fall in love with a floor color that doesn’t necessarily match the color of the moldings and furniture, you can choose to strip and varnish them so that they harmonize with your new floor. There are various solutions: you can sand, prime, lacquer, or polish your furniture and moldings.

Consider brightness when installing floor planks based on the light source

If you dream of hardwood floors and love their wild and authentic look, you’ll need to consider the brightness in your home before investing. Indeed, one or more rooms that are poorly or insufficiently lit by natural light will quickly feel cold if you add a floor that’s too dark, which will absorb and diminish the slightest ray of natural light. Depending on the usage, to highlight your floor and improve its appearance, its planks should be installed in the direction of the main light source in the room. If your room has only one light source, the floor and its planks should be laid perpendicular to the window to bring out its colors. Also, depending on the light, if your room is, for example, very exposed to the sun, you’ll need to choose a parquet variety and color that are resistant to light to avoid as much as possible color variations once the parquet is installed.

Avoid any excess of colors between your walls and your floor

Even if the trend is towards out-of-the-ordinary colors and you want to break the monotony of your home’s interior decoration, colors should be chosen sparingly so that the whole doesn’t look like a stage set. To do it right and not make mistakes, make sure to choose a floor color that matches your walls. If you’re not sure what goes with what, you can always opt for neutrality, choose to have white walls and a beautiful wood floor, then enhance the room with colors through added decoration. Depending on the ambiance you want to create in your room, here are the evocations of different parquet colors:

  • A light beige parquet gives a very modern look to a room and enlarges the space by releasing brightness.
  • A dark beige to yellow parquet evokes nature, naturalness, and the comfort of a home while generally allowing all kinds of interior decoration.
  • An orange to burgundy red parquet evokes warmth and intimacy, but also stage sets for a theatrical interior.
  • A brown parquet gives a chalet-like, family and old house feel to a room that is reassuring and blends well with more colorful decorative elements.
  • A black parquet is very elegant and luxurious, but must be matched with contemporary furniture of the same style.
  • A gray parquet is elegant and gives a seaside look to a room while allowing the addition of more vibrant colored decorations.
